About Zan

I never dreamed I'd be a potter. After completing a Masters in Anthropology, I pursued quite an academic path, working in social and market research. In my early thirties I moved overseas with my husband and during our decade there I worked in relocation, had my babies, and segued into freelance writing. So it was quite a circuitous route to get here.
It was only during lockdown that I allowed myself to explore my creativity, and I haven't stopped making since I picked up that first ball of clay. I come from a family of makers, so in way it's been a homecoming.
Humans fascinate me, but alone in my studio is my happy place. What I love about clay, especially the slow process of handbuilding, is that it gets me out of my head, while keeping me in a calm, contemplative state. It's a cliche I know, but it does feel like a primal connection to the way we were before modern life and technology frazzled us.
